LINDSAY E.W. NILSSON
Lindsay joined the firm in 2016 after 10 years defending local governments as legal counsel for the Municipal Insurance Association of British Columbia. She speaks regularly at conferences throughout the province on liability and risk management issues facing local governments.
Lindsay's practice now includes professional liability (errors and omissions) defence work, construction disputes and personal injury matters.
When not litigating, Lindsay enjoys yoga, reading crime fiction and spending time with her family in Sweden and on Pender Island.
Her recent trial experience includes the following reported cases:
Jull v. Victoria (City), 2015 BCSC 617: successful dismissal of a claim for Charter damages against the Victoria Police Department for wrongful arrest, detention and assault.
Ross v. Vernon (City), 2009 BCSC 1378: summary trial dismissal of an Occupiers Liability Act claim involving a slip and fall at a city park.
Friedrich v. Vernon (City), 2008 BCSC 1243: summary trial dismissal of negligence claim relating to the design and construction of a roadway that was the site of a motor vehicle accident.
Talarico v. Town of Fort Nelson, 2008 BCSC 861: successful dismissal of a claim involving a slip and fall on an icy roadway which reaffirmed the Court’s general acceptance of a local government’s policy defence to a claim in negligence.
